Some random thoughts.
What else would you expect from me.
Annie is doing an incredible job writing the blog - the information she's providing is not only fascinating and informative but it gives everyone a good idea of what we're experiencing. Not only that, reading her blogs helps me remember what we actually did - after all, my memory is getting as bad as my hearing these days!
I'm surprised how much I enjoyed Russia and the Trans-Siberian experience. I never expected that.
Yesterday our tuk-tuk driver / tour guide started to cry when discussing the Khmer Rouge as we were visiting some "killing caves". Today he was kind enough to take us to visit his home which belongs to his in-laws. They all live there together along with his brother in law, their wives and children.
Annie's got a really bad cold but nothing ever slows her down - fortunately we have an easy day tomorrow and she can relax. When I get sick I don't want to do anything - women are just so much stronger than men!
I miss our kids a lot.
(Continuing this morning)
Just finished Skyping Alexander and Zachary - great to see and hear them. Annie's been up since 4:30 working on the blog - I feel guilty writing so little.
Best one day adventure for me has been climbing the Great Wall - sore for 3 days after and I think we're in pretty good shape. We really pushed it by doing a long section and not taking the easy way up (gondola) or down (bobsled slide) like a lot of others who climbed the area we did. The steps just getting up to the wall were really long and steep - just a tad tired by the time we started the wall.
Tomorrow we're hoping to take the ferry from Battambang to Siem Reap but the flooding may make it impossible so we'll take the bus. Won't know until later today. It will be interesting to see the rest of Cambodia. This area is really poor and the flooding makes everything look even worse.
Today we had a really relaxing day highlighted by a great lunch in town - well the highlight wasn't really the lunch but it was when they gave us some hot water in a mug and Annie was so happy for the hot water she started to drink it. Fortunately the waitress caught her in time since the water was meant for the silverware to be washed in before we ate from it.
Just another day in paradise.
And Mongolia was incredible!
