What a great start to the
trip. Everything went really smoothly – except the plane was an hour late
leaving Denver because of the winds, TSA broke Annie’s lock (which was a TSA
approved one and supposedly they could just open easily), we missed our tour in
Reykjavik, we had a terrible time unlocking the lock box at our house/room
rental, the winds here are fierce and it’s freezing. Actually, we rescheduled
the tour with no trouble, spent most of yesterday walking around the city and
taking a free walking tour, our room is in a great location – right in the
middle of the city, it’s got a great kitchen and we share it with 4 other rooms
in the apartment (2 baths), were able to get a good/cheap pizza for lunch and
bought bread, butter and cheese to make sandwiches for dinner. Our bags are
much heavier to lug around than I expected so we’ll have to make some
adjustments but all in all it’s been a great start. Oh yeah, Annie slept over 9
hours last night (over double her normal sleep time) and I was up before her for
the first time ever so you know things are going well. The internet at the
apartment is very spotty so I don’t know when I’ll actually post this.
The city is nice and pretty
empty right now because it’s a holiday. Plenty of shops and it reminds me a little
of Halifax because of the harbor and fishing vessels. Too cold
to eat outside but most places have tables set up anyway. People are very
friendly and it seems like a lot of tourists. Everyone speaks English which
makes it easy to ask for directions.
